Chelmsford Youth League 1-2 Royston Crow Youth League (East Anglian Inter League Competition Final, 14th May 2006, Saffron Walden Town F.C.)

A hard-fought match resulted in Royston Crow taking the East Anglian Inter-League Cup after a 2-1 victory.

Chelmsford were not disgraced and deserved more out of this game. Had it not been for the Royston 'keeper the Cup would have come to Chelmsford.

As it was, Alex Devin fired the C.Y.F.L. ahead in the 35th minute from twelve yards after a low cross from Oliver Lee.

Royston drew level with practically the last kick of the first half following a long ball through the middle which C.Y.F.L. claimed was controlled by the striker with his hand. This looked a very good shout.

Both teams locked horns in the second half but C.Y.F.L. went behind in the 62nd minute when, again, a long ball was played and, again, there was a definite suspicion of a hand being used to control.

C.Y.F.L. battled hard and Oliver Lee saw the 'keeper pull off a point blank save from a fierce shot which had ‘goal’ written all over it. Congratulations go to Royston Crow but on another day it would have been the C.Y.F.L. celebrating.
