Chelmsford Youth League Under 14s 4-2 Peterborough & District Youth Alliance Under 14s, Anglia Inter Counties East Anglia Youth Inter League Competition, Sunday 30th January 2005, Sandon Sports Club.

For their first competitive match played by the hosts the performance was excellent.

Lewis Ward opened the scoring after 15 minutes. Unfortunately a long ball 5 minutes later was not dealt with and Peterborough equalised. However there was a suspicion of offside but the linesman's flag was waved down by the Referee.

Lee Simpson allowed Chelmsford to regain the lead finishing well following a good through ball from Andrew Fairlie but before then both he, Lewis and Sam O’Rourke had chances which really ought to have been put away.

This well deserved lead was taken into the halftime break and it was Simpson who doubled the advantage just 4 minutes after the restart. Back came Peterborough who reduced the deficit with a superb shot from distance although again the linesman's flag was waved down during the course of the move which led to the goal. Neither goal gave Mason Durrell any chance to save.

Peterborough's long ball tactics allowed them some joy in the first period but after the restart Ross Philips and Charlie Morrison did not let much pass them. The covering was good and timely. Charlie Egleton was excellent in the middle of the park and gave the back 4 ample protection. Out on the right Julian Simon-Parsons was busy but then tiredness set in and Luke Elson came on. John Smith added some bite to midfield coming on for Fairlie and Harry Forsyth had a short run out at right back in the place of James Boon.

Chelmsford did not allow themselves to become panicky or downhearted after the Peterborough 2nd and urged on by skipper Tom Newell, Lewis Ward sealed the result when he chested down a Ryan Cornell chip, drew the ‘keeper and slotted home. With only 8 minutes to go there was no return for the visitors.
