Chelmsford Youth League 2-0 Milton Keynes Youth League (East Anglian Inter League Competition Semi Final, 12th February 2006, Old Brentwoods) On a very wet and cold afternoon, this hastily-arranged game was deservedly won by the hosts. In truth this was a comfortable win, with the home keeper never really being tested. With only one short training session behind them, the C.Y.F.L. side gelled very quickly as a unit and played the better football. The opener came in the last minute of the first half when Oliver Lee set Kieren San Miguel free. His pace took him past the defence as he drew the ‘keeper out and slotted home. The second half very much followed the pattern of the first, with the C.Y.F.L. contesting every ball and never letting their opponents settle. Chelmsford then clinched a final spot when Oliver Lee rifled in the second with ten minutes to go after a corner was only cleared to just outside the Milton Keynes box. Lee's low drive found the bottom corner, giving the ‘keeper no chance. The hosts went looking for more goals, which didn’t come. Nevertheless, 2-0 was an excellent return for the effort put in by all the players. Squad: Mason Durrell, Chris McGilly (both Romford Borough Youth), Jack Thomas, Ross Phillips (both Brentwood Athletic), Tom Newell (Billericay Town Colts), Alex Devlin, Nathan Ferrol, Ryan Cornell (all Romford Borough Youth), Billy Jennings, Oliver Lee (both Brentwood Athletic), Kieren San Miguel (Romford Borough Youth). Subs: Stuart Alexander, James Moat (both Brentwood Athletic), James Boon (Brentwood Athletic), Lewis Batchford (Wilvale Rangers). |
