Chelmsford Youth League Under 11s 1-0 Mid Herts Rural Minors League Under 11s, Anglia Inter Counties East Anglia Youth Inter League Competition, Sunday 7th November 2004, Sandon Sports Club. “It was an excellent team performance and it would be difficult to pick out any individuals,” was the summary Team Manager Graeme Dale provided after his Under 11s side edged a well-contested Inter County Representative game at Sandon Sports Club on Sunday. A first half goal from Eclipse's Joe Scott earned the C.Y.F.L. a match in the next round against the Colchester Youth League, although it took a solid display against a determined Mid Herts side to get there. It was in the 29th minute that Scott’s touch took him clear of the defence where he tucked the ball wide to the right of keeper Jayden Purdue and into the net. Mid Herts threw everything at Chelmsford in the second half to rescue an equaliser although the hosts looked dangerous on the break and three minutes after the interval Bradley Cook blasted just over after controlling the ball well on the edge of the area. Half way through the second period Mid Herts came their closest to restoring parity. A Chelmsford player headed the ball off the line, leading to a corner. From that dead ball Mid Herts rained headers on goal, with the third coming from the head of Harlow Sports Centre’s Charlie Cole who saw his effort come back off the crossbar. With Mid Herts committing players forward, Chelmsford almost made the most of the space at the back and with a quarter of an hour left they had only the keeper to beat but a shot flew across the face of goal from a difficult angle. Despite having to defend a couple of corners in the dying moments, Chelmsford held on to their slender advantage and sent the League into the next round.
