Chelmsford Youth League Under 12s 3-2 Mid Herts Rural League, East Anglia Inter Counties Competition, Sunday 6th November 2005, Sandon Sports Club Chelmsford prevailed in a five-goal thriller as they held off a determined Mid Herts team to win by the odd goal at a very overcast Sandon. Playing with a strong wind it at their backs it was the visitors who took an early lead but this was equalised by a quality finish from Sean Barry following excellent work by Tom Went and Michael Smith on the right hand side. Chelmsford started to take a grip but the visitors were always a danger on the break and continued to battle. In the second half Chelmsford were in the ascendancy as they had the stiff breeze at their backs but it took a couple of excellent saves by substitute keeper Will Greenhill as Mid Herts caught the home team with some sharp counter attacking. Skipper George Crocker put Chelmsford ahead as he curled a 25-yarder that took a slight deflection that left the visiting keeper rooted to the spot. Shaun Farrow and Joe Scott then combined to take advantage of a tiring visitors defence for Joe to slot home a decisive 3rd. In the last minute Joe was adjudged to have handled in the area as he attempted to clear a corner and Mid Herts scored from the spot. Squad: Sean Glynn, Tom Went, Callum Howard, Tom Saltwell, Robert Quick, Michael Smith, George Crocker, James Bowyer, Joe Scott, Sean Barry, Shaun Farrow Subs Will Greenhill, George Pope, Phil Roberts & Jordan McBain ( Bradley Cooke absent as he was unwell). |
