Peterborough Junior Alliance League Under 12s 3-3 Chelmsford Youth League Under 12s, East Anglia Inter Counties Competition, Sunday 6th November 2005, Dogsthorpe Chelmsford scored a dramatic last-minute equaliser to deservedly share the spoils in a pulsating clash at Dogsthorpe against a physically-strong Peterborough team. Our boys fell behind to a 2nd-minute goal where a Peterborough forward ran through almost unchallenged to score with ease. Dead ball situations, and in particular corner kicks against Chelmsford, proved a real problem and it took a fine goal-line clearance from Tom Went to prevent a second goal. Chelmsford stood up to the pressure well as we tried to get a foothold in the game and Callum Howard excelled alongside Tom Saltwell at the back while Sean Glynn the keeper had a fine game with some excellent handling. The away side were starting to get their passing going and an equaliser looked a possibility. A long free kick by Callum gave the strong running Shaun Farrow a half chance and he held off a desperate challenge with a clinical finish to level at half time. In the second half a Sean Barry pile-driver was tipped over the bar. Joe Scott, who joined the action in the second half, then helped Chelmsford capitalise on some early second half pressure for Joe to bundle home from close range to put us ahead. Peterborough came storming back as the game swung from end to end and the home side soon equalised. The home side then missed an open goal from three yards before taking the lead as replacement keeper Will Greenhill was beaten from close in. However Chelmsford were not to be denied and kept plugging away and with less than a minute to go George Pope hurled in a splendid long throw that caused problems for the home defence and sub Jordan McBain expertly planted a curling shot into the side of the net to be engulfed by his ecstatic team mates. All sixteen boys played their part in a fine team performance and a draw was probably a fair result over the sixty minutes. Either Peterborough or Chelmsford will make the final depending on the outcome of the final games in the group. |
