History of the Chelmsford Youth Football League The Chelmsford Youth Football League was formed in 1978. Prior to this date there were a number of Youth Leagues running in the Chelmsford area and it was decided by the members of each League, the way forward was to amalgamate the Chelmsford Under 11s and Under 12s Leagues, the Mini League (Under 13s and 14s) and the Chelmsford Junior League (Under 15s and 16½s) to form one Youth Competition for Chelmsford and the Mid Essex area. Since 1978, the League has seen many Clubs and Officers come and go. However, there are four members that have remained on the Management Committee since the beginning. They are Jim Machin, President; John Hinsley, Vice Chairman; Terry McDermott, Vice President and Michael Game who has this season retired to Life Vice President to concentrate on his duties as Chairman of the Essex County Football Association.. Without these four dedicated people, the League would not be the size and success it is today and to these volunteers, along with their colleagues, we are truly grateful for their long and outstanding services to Youth Football in Essex. Over the years the League has introduced age groups for Under 7s through to Under 18s, with most age groups having in excess of four Divisions. As you can see, the Chelmsford Youth Football League has quietly established itself over the years and is now considered as one of the premier and largest leagues in the Country, comprising of a League membership of more than 100 Clubs and fielding over 500 teams each week. The League prides
itself in its successful objectives, which is to organise football for the
physical and moral development of young people up to the age of 18. The work put
in by so many at League and Club level comes to fruition when you see so many
young people playing and above all enjoying football each weekend. |
